Glossary / Terminology
A glossary is a list of technical terms and their definitions. It serves as a reference tool to define a common platform of understanding and technical interpretation of terms for all stakeholders.
Please note: The IANLP Glossary may define some terms differently from the common understanding. The definitions in the glossary are binding on the members of the IANLP.
The glossary of terms is a work in progress. Technical terminology is constantly evolving. If you are missing something or would like a different definition, please contact info@ia-nlp.org. We are grateful for any input.
Benefits of the IANLP Glossary
- Boosts Professionalism and Credibility: The IANLP Glossary reflects the professionalism and knowledge of the industry. It shows that there are established norms and expectations in the field, thus contributing to credibility.
- Standardizes Terminology: Ensures that all FMTs understand the terms in the same way. This will avoid confusion, misinterpretation and unwarranted advantage.
- Improves Communication: Clear communication is crucial in any trade. Our glossary enables FMTs to effectively communicate within the IANLP and the industry of education by providing a common language.
- Enhances Efficiency: Thanks to the glossary, FMTs and head office do not have to spend time explaining or discussing frequently used terms or concepts. This saves time and helps to work more efficiently.
- Facilitates Learning: For people new to the IANLP or adult learning, a glossary is a valuable tool for learning the terminology. It helps to familiarise oneself with the vocabulary and speeds up the learning process.
- Ensures Consistency and Fairness: The IANLP Glossary ensures that terms are used consistently across platforms, documents and interactions. This consistency is critical to maintaining accuracy and trust within the community.

Solidarity among members
Over the many years since the IANLP has existed, we have always been impressed and delighted by the great solidarity within the membership.
A wide diversity of life situations
There seems to be a great awareness of the fact that our members live in very different circumstances depending on their geographical region. Politically, socially and, above all, economically.
It therefore comes as no surprise that our members have always shown great willingness to support other members who are in financial difficulties. Requests for a reduction or a waiver of the annual fees were always met easily and directly. Here too, the IANLP lives by its principle of “Guided by Trust”. If a member informs us that support would be welcome, this is accepted with confidence.
A big thank you to all our members!
Over the years, hardship cases have been avoided time and again and membership fees have been offset by the contributions from other members.
